16 October 2018

Dubai, United Arab Emirates, 16th October 2018: The Rental Disputes Center (RDC) broadcasted the first remote litigation trial during its participation at GITEX Technology Week (GITEX) 2018, which continues till 18th October at Dubai World Trade Centre. The trial was conducted in partnership with wasl Asset Management Group.

HE Sultan Butti bin Mejren, Director General of Dubai Land Department (DLD), said: "We are proud to announce the launch of this service during GITEX, the largest and most prominent technical event locally and regionally. We would like to praise wasl Asset Management Group, one of the first entities to collaborate with us on implementing this world-class technical innovation. By adopting these advanced procedures, we will contribute to accelerating the process of resolving real estate disputes, inevitably boosting investor confidence in Dubai's real estate sector which has positioned itself as one of the world's preferred investment destinations."

Hesham Al Qassim, Chief Executive Officer of wasl Asset Management Group, stressed the importance of cooperation and coordination between the public and private sectors to establish a transparent real estate environment in which all parties are guaranteed their rights while avoiding routine procedures that waste time, effort, and money. "We are pleased to support RDC and adopt its advanced solution, highlighting Dubai's status as a modern city that aims to satisfy everyone. 'Remote Litigation' portrays the Emirate as an innovative destination that offers benefits to tenants and leasers through hasty decision-taking on rental issues, and the accurate implementation of its provisions."

HE Judge Abdulqader Mousa, Director of RDC, affirmed that the remote litigation process aims to restore the rights to owners, while saving the time and effort of all parties involved. It has a positive impact in regulating the work mechanisms in the real estate market to ensure its stability by applying smart and self-innovative solutions.

Mousa stressed that RDC seeks to facilitate litigation with parties without the need for a personal presence at the center. Remote litigation solutions rely on the latest technologies, which will increase a judge's productivity index in the number of handled cases.

RDC provides conciliation and reconciliation services in rental disputes through the Department of Conciliation to assist the disputants in reaching a settlement that satisfies all parties through remote litigation proceedings. The settlement takes place in a legal framework through a set of processes and procedures, and according to laws and regulations that guarantee the rights of all parties. Law mediators and experts participate in the settlement and document the transaction's success via a signed agreement between the parties and the mediator following approval from the presiding judge. Such agreements shall take force of the executive bond, and half of the registration fees shall be returned to the litigant.
