• City based on seven basic pillars

His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, UAE Vice President, Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai, visited the Dubai Land Department (DLD) stand during his inspection tour of Cityscape Global 2014. HH was received by HE Sultan Butti Bin Mejren, Director General, DLD; Majida Ali Rashid, Assistant Director General, DLD and a number of the department’s staff, who briefed him on ‘The Perfect City’ - the first specialised sustainable city in the world.

Part of DLD’s seven year plan, The Perfect City initiative represents a comprehensive system of sustainable real estate solutions, with the project enhancing the status of the department at the global level as being a leading destination for the development of integrated solutions for the sector.

The Perfect City will be based on seven basic pillars. In addition to DLD, which includes its RERA regulatory arm and the Investment Management and Promotion Centre, it will contain six other entities, namely: Real Estate Court, Real Estate University, Real Estate Museum, Sustainability Centre, Emirates Real Estate Solutions and the Real Estate World Centre, the latter of which will include global real estate companies, real estate development companies and real estate brokerage offices. The Perfect City will be based on three essential qualities ‘Smart,’ ‘Sustainable’ and ‘Safe.’

"We decided to surprise visitors to this year’s Cityscape with this unique initiative that showcases a quantum leap forward in the concept of sustainable real estate developments,” commented HE Sultan Butti Bin Mejren, Director General, DLD, “Our efforts derive inspiration from the vision of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, UAE Vice President and Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai. His leadership and ability to set out a path for the future motivates us to produce new projects that set the pace for Dubai’s continued evolution as the world’s foremost innovative property sector," he added.

DLD’s stand this year has been visited by large numbers of attendees to the exhibition, with many expressing interest in knowing more about the department's services and initiatives. Each inquiry has been addressed by DLD representatives at the stand, with department staff drawing on their specialist knowledge to provide detailed answers relating to the mechanisms and procedures for investment in this sector. Many visitors were also keen to know more about The Perfect City initiative.

“Work on The Perfect City will begin in early 2015 and is expected to be completed by 2021,” explained Mrs. Majida Ali Rashid, Assistant Director General, DLD. “The city will feature 75 per cent green space and include 20,000 trees, which will contribute to reducing levels of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere. The city will be 100 per cent sustainable and contain many lifestyle enhancing features, including a 500-metre canal. It will also provide DLD customers with facilities that will enable them to do all their property-related transactions in one area, without the need to navigate to different parts of Dubai, thereby saving them time, effort and money,” she added.

This year’s edition of Cityscape has succeeded in attracting 250 exhibitors from around the world, an increase of almost 25 percent compared to last year. Cityscape Global is one of the largest international exhibitions specialising in real estate investment and development. DLD has stated that it will be strongly supporting the Cityscape summits, especially the Real Estate Brokers Summit. Cityscape is taking place from September 21-23 at the Dubai World Trade Centre.
