Maktoum bin Mohammed attends the launch of Dubai Sustainable City

Dubai Deputy Ruler, Sheikh Maktoum bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum has launched Dubai Sustainable City project at Dubai Land Department (LD) stand in Cityscape Global. Sheikh Maktoum was briefed by the LD’s Director General Sultan Butti Bin Mejren about Real Estate Sustainable Initiative and the City in line with the vision and strategy of UAE Vice President, Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum  to build a green economy and for “activating the role of the real estate sector in creating green and safe environment by offering programs and projects contribute to building green economy, the preservation of the environment and provide convenience for citizens and residents". Sheikh Maktoum also viewed a number of LD’s achievements and projects showcased in Cityscape. The projects include the LD’s “Seven Portals” namely Real estate registration, regulation, investment promotion, Duabi Real Estate Institute (DREI), Real estate appraisal, Real estate solutions and GIS System.

LD’s Director General Sultan Butti Bin Mejren said: “The Sustainable City is the fruit of a one year of joint efforts between the private and public sectors. During that period, the Center for Promotion and Management of Real Estate Investment, the LD’s investment arm has formulated the economic concepts of the project. The Center also assisted and supported the developer “Diamond Developers” to achieve harmony with sustainable development criteria formulated by the Centre in collaboration with the Dubai Municipality and the Hamdan bin Mohammed E-University.

Bin Mejren stressed that Dubai is moving ahead with putting its distinctive and unique mark on the real estate sustainability as one of the pillars important to green economy.

For her part, Majida Ali Rashid Chairwoman of the Center for the Promotion and Management of Real Estate Investment said: “This project is a milestone in interaction and joint cooperation between LD and the property private sector and it reflects Dubai trends to formulate innovative concepts. Prior to the launch, the Center has signed a joint cooperation agreement with the developer of Dubai Sustainable City to exchange experiences and formulate sustainable standards for Dubai Sustainable City. At later stages, the sustainability requirements will be coordinated with Dubai Municipality responsible in charge with drafting Green Building Code.

She expressed confidence that the launch of this new city will represent a real platform to implement sustainability standards in Dubai real estate market which the LD completed in cooperation with Dubai Municipality. The new city is a model for the private sector’s interaction with the trends in UAE in general and Dubai in particular in line with UAE’s strategy drive towards green and sustainable development launched earlier by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum.

The Chairwoman of the Center for the Promotion and Management of Real Estate Investment added that the new project will be strong incentive for companies operating in the real estate market to take similar steps and initiatives, due to the great importance of sustainability concepts these days due to the benefits of these concepts related to life style without endangering the environment.

Engineer Faris Saeed, Chairman of Diamond Developers and a member of the Dubai real estate community established by LD said: “Dubai deserves real contributions from those living in this oasis of safety and home of humanitarian happiness. Saeed stressed that Dubai has given a lot especially for developers and it is time to pay back to Dubai, its wise leadership and dear people.

He pointed out that his company has completed the last touches on the final design of this project and submitted it to Dubai Municipality to ensure harmony required between the city, building standards and urban and engineering sustainability. This stage was reached after the active participation of the Center and Hamdan bin Mohammed E-University in drafting Dubai sustainable real estate standards in all its real estate, social, cultural and economic aspects.

He added that the project would not be possible without the support of the LD, the center and Dubai Property Group the member in Dubai Holdings as the new city is located in the Dubailand Porject of DPG.

The Chairman of Diamond Developers noted that this project was the result of three years of tireless efforts in formulating concepts to give the UAE a leading position in the world of sustainability and was the fruit of extensive and deep research, studies and discussions conducted between Diamond Developers with international universities and experts working in United Nation’s related organizations to develop the final concepts of this unique project at international scale.
