The advantages that positive thinking brings to the workplace were the topic of a panel discussion held this week at Dubai Land Department (DLD). The organisation initiated the platform to apply the methodology of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, UAE Vice President and Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai, who wishes to harness the power of positive thought to maximise the efficiency of government offices.
Attending the forum, which also aimed to raise employee awareness of the behavioural skills necessary to work effectively in DLD, was Majida Ali Rashid, Assistant Director General, DLD, along with a number of DLD employees and customers. Several students from the Al Tabu Class at Princess Haya Bint Al Hussein Girls School were also guests at the event.
Among the invited speakers on the panel were two experts, Moza Alshoomi from the Ministry of Social Affairs and Najma Ahli, government adviser for on the virtues of positive thinking. Their addresses included methods of ensuring a positive workplace environment that will bring out the best in DLD employees and instill in them positive values that will last throughout their careers.
Commenting on the session, Majida Ali Rashid said; “Happiness is a vital component for a successful life, as it is the seed that enables us to find solutions for problems creatively and professionally. Happiness and a positive outlook are the core ingredients for sustained achievement – they are the two qualities that help us to embrace the challenges that lie ahead, imbuing us with the enthusiasm to maintain continuous professional development.”
Addressing the guests at the event, the panel speakers took it in turns to define the concept of positive energy. They variously outlined the qualities of a positive person and the attributes needed to enjoy a life of optimism, ambition and success. The participants stressed that engaging this mindset would lead to excellence, creativity and progress and allow for the casting off of negative perceptions towards life, work, relationships and the community in general.
The speakers also advised the audience to adopt lifestyles based on respect for religious and ethical values, to rely on rational thought and to be concerned with physical health. The value of nurturing positive relationships with family members, co-workers and even strangers was advanced as a way of promoting a good psychological condition.
“Positive thinking helps us to change our view of life, as we become more optimistic and in tune with what enhances our lives and our attitudes. We can attain this state by looking on the bright side. Excluding dark thoughts helps us to banish sorrow and retain good emotions about life. Adopting this mindset helps us to deal with failures and to take the inevitable disappointments that life throws at us in our stride,” added Rashid.
